Chicago or Bust (demo)
March 31, 2007 3:39 PM
This quick demo was made on my pocket tape recorder right after I had finished writing the song, and I was really pleased with the way it sounds... like it's a recording from a long time back.

To hold me back
No, I ain't got nothin' like that
Nothin' like that
Everyone here looks like a nervous wreck
You look like heck
Business as usual, I expect
I expect
But if you expect me to stay, don't hold your breath
This path that you prescribe leads to a fate worse than death
Oh
This town is too small for the two of us
The two of us
That's why I got me this sign: "Chicago or Bust"
Chicago or Bust
My feet are made of rubber, watch me jump
Watch me jump
I might land in Shangri-La, I might land in a dump
Land in a dump
But if you expect me to stay, you better cross your toes
The wind don't consult the birds before it blows
Oh
I thought we had a deal, you, me, and Cupid
You, me, and Cupid
He'd bring the love, you'd bring the crazy, and I'd bring the stupid
I'm stupid
Poker's got no rules when the chips are human hearts
The chips are human hearts
In the end you only win if you remember the good parts
Remember the good parts
But if you expect me to stay, you got another thing comin'
I got this beat in my head, and it just keeps on drummin'
Oh
I gotta move on.
