Fume [Beck]

July 10, 2007 6:49 PM

I've seen a few covers recently and decided to dig up this bluegrass version of Beck's Loser B-side masterpiece. Warning: contains the word "fuck", stark depictions of inhalant abuse, and piping hot banjo rolls.

Recorded sometime in the last year. Shouts to Uncle J for banjo & bass, Hotbeard for guitar & drum. Rumor has it Beck wrote the original after reading a newspaper article about two kids that died trying to get high off nitrous in a pickup truck. And, to anybody familiar with the original, I apologize for the absence of the psycho-rockout end. Maybe we can tack that on if there's any interest.

It's kind of eerie how much you sound like Beck at times in this song. Fantastic.

a great rendition of a classic tune. i had a friend in college who didn't buy the loser single (and i guess somehow couldn't find it) and paid a penance by buying every other beck single for years so he wouldn't repeat his mistake. when he got married i made him a cd with, like, 20 versions of fume on it.

Ha. I'd like to hear those. And I thought every sane person bought every Beck single.

I have no Beck singles and may have never heard this song before. It's great!
