Some Kind Of Superhero

September 13, 2007 11:52 PM

For the MeFi Music Challenge. This one uses mouthbow, bodhran (but it sounds like a bass drum), a little bell, shakers, some little woodblock rattley things, a drone, and voice.

Oh, and here's the lyrics:

some kind of superhero

all i wanted was to tickle your ears
but honey you were gone for a thousand years
you couldn't hear my song you couldn't hear my bell toll
i was obscured like the sun in a swirling dustbowl

there was someone following me that i couldn't shake
some kind of crazy code that i could not break
every leaf in the forest was out of place
and there was a curtain of smoke drawn across your face

but if i was some kind of superhero
behind a wall of solid steel that i could punch on through
i'd summon all my powers and fight off all these demons
these demons and villains keeping me away from you

i kept thinking i was just this close
but just this close kept getting further away
i'd rehearsed my lines time after time
but when i got on stage i found i had nothing to say

and i believe yes i believe that i could grow strong enough
cause you know honey you know that i crave you
there's really only one thing though
that makes me tremble with fear
it's that maybe just maybe you don't want me to save you

but if i was some kind of superhero...

This is very cool. This mystical eastern sound really works for these lyrics. Right on!

A Bodhran? I don't even need to listen to know that I'll like it. But I'll be listening anyway.

FLAPJAX!? This was you?!?!?!

Wow.

Alright, I was unable to fall asleep last night after a couple of days of big wind storms and unusual sleep times so I put on the latest MeFI podcast because I figured I may as well be accomplishing something while I was laying there in bed on my boat. And with the wind whipping, and the waves half-heartedly sloshing against the hull, and the iPod playing, after a while I dozed off....

....but when your song came on at the end of the 'cast, FAM, I woke up as if I was being called back awake by some clarion call. You see, there in the night, with the small black speakers next to my head, and this song there tucked in the v-berth with me, I sensed I was being called to service. And I listened, one superhero to another.

Some Kind of Superhero is a song for true superheroes.

Although, for the record? I choose to referred to as a metaperson. But whatever. You got my attention, Flapjax.

Wow, I have no idea how I missed this. Wait, yes I do - I vanished from planet earth for a few months. If you ever see this comment, well: this rules. Hard.

Listening to this after a long time. Forgot to add it to my favourites list, and my Play List--something that I'll be remedying pronto--thanks for the wonderful song flapjax!

Really I am so surprised how this song is as of yet undiscovered by more others.

IT IS GREAT.
