California Dreamin' (cover)

November 4, 2007 1:08 PM

Just a dreary little vignette to remind myself I record music sometimes. Started as a morning grumble, while the leaves were falling outside our kitchen window.

This is one of those songs that I almost hate to do such a sloppy, unplanned version of; the vocal harmonies in the original (and famous covers) are just so damned pretty and dreamy that I feel bad about muffing 'em a bit.

I've been working on bowing the upright. It no longer sounds like screeching never-played-a-day-in-my-life ass like it did when I first started trying, but it's still very, uh, experimental.

Not your best, cortex `ol buddy, but far better than I could ever do and still damn good for something you essentially threw together. Thanks for making it and uploading it. It'll be goin' on the ol' ipod later today.

Effigy2000: ouch!

I personally think it would have been really creepy if you had done a spot on cover of this song. So, thankfully, it is sloppy and unplanned.

Ouch? No ouch intended. I think cortex is the man and I like this song. Just not as much as some of his other stuff. :)

No ouch inferred. I like that I recorded this, but as the man says: it's not my best work. Just a one-off Sunday plaything to shake some of the dust off.

I like it a lot. The low-fi ad hoc feeling is perfect for taking a little Polaroid this song.

At my friends' house last night I programmed a little playlist and in an attempt to be clever played California Dreamin' right after "Big Girl You Are Beautiful". No one noticed.

True story.

I hear what you guys are saying about "not best work". But it's all subjective. I dig it.
