Wow, that is a kickass guitar recording. And the playing isn't exactly rotten either.

Thanks all for your kind comments!

I recorded this a few years ago. The recording comprises of doubletracking the piece (played on an Ovation roundback with .09-.46 Ernie Balls on it -- actually electric strings) in back to back takes. The takes were captured in stereo with two condenser mics -- one a Rode NT1 aimed at the soundhole and the other an Audio Technica Midnight Blue hi-hat mic near the bridge -- through a BlueTube preamp.

(It's all budget stuff -- the key to getting a good sound I think is to really experiment with mic placement...I probably spent more time adjusting the mic placement and listening through headphones to find the sweet spots than I did actually recording the takes or mixing it.)

The mic layout and double tracking leads to a natural chorus effect. I wanted it to sound as naked as possible, so there's no compression or studio sweetening. If I remember correctly, there isn't even any reverb, it's just the natural room sound. The two resulting stereo tracks were panned wide, EQ'd a wee bit, then bounced and normalized.

As every one else already said, the recording is really good and the performance is great. I had the luck of listening to it for the first time after you explained how you did it, and I gotta say the explanation is also awesome. Congrats.
