February 1, 2008 11:30 AM

Yiddish standard, performed for voice and ukulele.

The lyrics:

Di mame iz gegangen in mark arayn noch koyln,
Hot zi mir gebracht a yingele fun Poyln.

Di mame iz gegangen in mark arayn noch kroyt,
Hot zi mir gebracht a yingele fun boyt.

Ich hob gegesn mandlen, ich hob getrunken vayn,
Ich hob gelibt a yingele, un kon on ir nit zayn.

Roughly translated, it is the tale of a young Jewish girl confessing to her cat her desire that her mother come back from market with a boyfriend for her.

Ha, this is cool man. I've never really been exposed to any yiddish that's actually in sentences, so thanks! I like it.
