The Girl From Donkey Kong (Demo)

A song about breaking up with the love of your life, only to watch them to find the love of their life straight afterwards.

Before Peach, there was Pauline. She was the heroine of Donkey Kong - Mario's first girlfriend, really. I was thinking how tough it must have been, watching her ex become part of this famous, almost legendary couple. I guess, if I were her, I'd be thinking: 'But what about us? Do you even remember me?' So this is kind of about that.

Sorry for the poor sound quality, and apologies to Nintendo fans for the glaring factual errors. I'm aware that stage 2 is, in fact, a cement factory, and that the 'mispelled fax' theory is probably an urban legend. I hope these inaccuracies do not blight your enjoyment of an otherwise well-meaning homage.

This song is making me smile, and is oddly touching. You have a fun voice, and the ukulele is the perfect instrument to base this track upon. I've often thought celebrity couples must go through this on some level.

There is an opportunity at the line "I'm haning by a wire" to add more instruments, some percussion, a guitar? Some nintendo-ish sounds?

"I know it might sound silly but I feel just like the girl from Donkey Kong". Awesome. "Everything changed when you did those mushrooms, seems you outgrew me". This song is full of really great lines, now that I'm listening again.

Eventually the plan is to do a more 'produced' version. Unfortunately, as you can hear, I'm a bit cackhanded when it comes to audio-wizardry. I wrote it so that the music from the first level of Donkey Kong actually works as a kind of repeating lead-line if you pitch-shift it over the top, and the intro is a uke-friendly version of the music from between levels one and two of Donkey Kong Junior, so I'm definitely up for trying to fit some 8-bit bleeps and bloops over the top, if and when I can find a friend with a little more technical acumen than myself. I think handclaps might be nice, a good bouncy bassline and perhaps dropping out the uke altogether for the beginning of the 'ooh la la la' bit. One day, eh?

Thanks for your feedback. Really glad you enjoyed it.

This is really boss. Nintendo bleeps might push it over the edge into novelty...but, yeah, handclaps coming in at the "hanging by a wire" line would rule ok. Oh, and girl back-up singers, too!
