Long Time Coming

I came up with a weird little guitar line with a droning D string and put it over a steady tom beat punctuated with the occasional triangle. Figured it would be one of my RPM songs that didn't get used by my band, but the singer and bass player both love it. Anybody got and ideas on how to do this one with a group?

We have two guitars, bass, drums & vocals; we usually play fairly hard rock/punk stuff but we've been looking to branch out some. (Some of our stuff is here.) We tried it a few times last practice, but it wasn't working so I'm looking for some different ways to approach it.

I like that this is sparse and driving; it's coiled, and I'd want to keep that going as long as possible.

What I would try is to hold off on the bass entirely until it comes in playing steady eighth notes at 2:08. (He can play the triangle until then!)

The drummer would replace the tom fill with the kick and play light tom fills until he gets to finally gets to start hitting the snare and cymbals at 2:42.

That's my first blush reaction, anyway. You should tape your next practice and let us listen to that!

Thanks Karlos- good ideas. We got sidetracked working on other new songs last practice, but I'll be sure to post another version of this as we work on it more.
