Radiohead - "Nude (Strings Remix)"

April 13, 2008 8:36 AM

The result here is spending a few free days on my couch with my violin and computer. I would love all comments/criticism from anybody, as this is something I'd like to continue experimenting with. (I guess if you like it, you can vote by clicking on the plus sign and pass the link onto anybody else). http://www.radioheadremix.com/remix/?id=1196 Thanks!

This is my first foray into home recording/mixing. I've been messing around with computer music for the last few months, because I felt like having another musical outlet (my current job is an orchestral violinist). I've had some experience in the studio (recorded with Sun Kil Moon, Okkervil River, John Vanderslice), and this whole Radiohead remix thing inspired me to see if I could arrange my own string parts.

Analogtones, what a great skill! You should find someone that wants to be Joanna Newsom to your Van Dyke Parks.

I would love to hear more about your process. Did you envision your chord voicings before recording, or just build it up track by track as you went?

The one comment that comes to mind is that maybe you could vary your rhythms and textures, rather than sticking only to long, sustained chords.

Keep posting these--I'd love to hear what you work on next. And if you are open to collaboration, I'm sure many of the regular MeFi music posters would clamor to hear string arrangements of their lo-fi acoustic guitar-driven tunes.

It's beautiful. And those are some big names you've recorded with, way to go.

By far the best Nude remix I've heard. Great stuff, really cool work playing around with the rhythm.

Thank you for all of your coments. umbu, I envisions the basic chord structure before recording, but had the time to experiment with voicings and other things. I am definitely open to collaboration, perhaps in the summer when the symphony is out of season (I'll have a lot more time on my hands then).

Thank you all for listening!

Hi analogtones. I wasn't trying to fish for a collaborator there (although I'd love to carve out some time this summer to try to pull something together). I was thinking of this--the Mefi Music Collaborators list.

This is very good, especially for a first home mixing effort. I love the lush strings, but I wish there was one more thing... some shimmering sound in the background like a high octave piano as in "Pluton" here, to give it a little more depth.
