'Til We're Dead

I think I managed to write a somewhat upbeat song! Well, upbeat if you ignore the title and lyrics. It's got: hammond organ, celesta, acoustic guitar, bass, drums, and some epic "Woo-oo-oooh" back up vocals.

This is great, man. Really great. I'm not sure what you're saying, but I love the woo's. I might even pump them up a little at some point. Oh, I just caught "a-sexual swingers", haha. I like "ba ba ba 'til we're dead" too. I'm listening to headphones, and it sounds like it might be a little weighted to the left. Maybe you could move something, like the bells, to the right.

Your voice sounds terrific in this one.

I dig it! And agree about your voice. Very nice.

Thanks, guys. I know the mix could use some tweaking but overall I'm pretty happy with how this one turned out. Here's lyrics in case you can't decipher them:

Telephones are ringing in the room
Televisions are blinking at you
Televangelists screaming
Telepathics dreaming
Telling everyone in the world what to do

Disbarred lawyers are threatening to sue
Dysfunctional families reproduce
Dyslexic presidents
Destroy the residents
Of a land previously unknown to you

CHORUS
So we sing ba ba ba ba ba 'til we're dead
Just to keep our brains inside our heads

Experimental tests confirm the news
Experts around the world give their views
Extemporaneous lying
Extraterrestrials crying
Accepting the fact that the humans are doomed

Amoral generals plot your demise
Apolitical robots have some advice
Atonal singers
Asexual swingers
A billion products from which you can choose

CHORUS

Alliteration!

Great tune, I likey, much. Catchy as hell, and these lyrics are clever, and I mean good clever.

I've caught myself singing this song at work for like the past week, it's really super catchy, easily one of the better mefi in the past few months, I'm kinda jealous....

scratch that comment about better mefi songs, one of the better songs I've heard period. I had it playing for my roomate when he came home from work and the first thing he did was sing along with the "ba ba ba ba " part, he thought I was listening to the radio. Special song you got here.

Thanks all for the very kind comments. Much more music on the way!

This, ladies and gentlemen, is how you write a song with a lot of words in it. It's also a good example of how to write a political song.

Oh, and it's a perfect pop song. Should be on the radio.

I never recognize your handle, and everytime I hear one of your songs and download it, when I see your name I always think: "oh, of course, it's him".

I only "discovered" this song now, after By The Grace of God covered it. What a great song, congrats.

Such a charming song. It feels like it should be running under movie credits as Michael Cera wanders through Central Park or something.

I like this! I posted this on my podcast, for the catchy lyrics & melody. "Just to keep our brains inside our heads" especially.

I thought I'd link the other versions of this. Weeks later, BrnP84 made a sinister & fuzzy version, & By The Grace of God did a lovely version, using only her voice. And inoculatedcities released another, more polished mix of this for his EP, a few months later.
