Continuing the tribute to the living genius of The Great Big Mulp.

Here's the original. I had a mental list of people I wanted to cover for the challenge and picking one wasn't easy. I think in the end what helped me choose the Mulp was seeing ORthey's version of Flyball's Lament the other day. Having a string of his songs covered sounded like a cool way to let thegreatbigmulp know that there's people that really appreciate his songs. Then I was basically trying to choose one of two, since Flyball's Lament was taken. One was Qipheyo (fantastic song), but I didn't have the tools to do a good version (and an acoustic version of that song would have to be superb to really honor the original), so I chose this one, which was in the first bunch of songs that really stood out for me in the early days of Metafilter Music. So, hopefully this "cover another Mefite" challenge -and its variations- will continue, even after the June deadline. I really liked ORthey's version of Flyball's and I'd love to see more people doing versions of other songs from here.

Hey micayetoca! This is a great cover. Initially I found the idea of covering another mefite kind of daunting. I really hold you guys in pretty high esteem, but you and ORthey have proven me wrong. It CAN be done and done well. Kudos meu vizhinhu! (sp)

Was that Ms. V on vocs? Not to say that TGBM isn't sexy, but this version is a little more sexy! Meow!

Yeah, hell, why not? This is great fun, it's making MeFiMu feel more like a community... just good all around. I sure hope folks keep doing this from now on.

Thanks guys. And snsranch, that is indeed Ms. V. I didn't mention her in the description because I thought it could be a cool surprise for the mulp to hear his song sung by a girl. Originally I was going to sing it, but since I'm vocally challenged, we gave it a try with her voice and it just sounded better.

And TGBM, I'm glad you liked it. If you ever thought that only The Greats get their songs translated to other languages, you were right, and you are one of 'em.

(and flapjax, fingers crossed here. It would be great to see it become a tradition)

Way to go Micayetoca, the cover songs so far have been ridiculously good. I'm awed by people who can figure out tunes simply by listening to them. Speaking of community, it's nice to see you back around, commenting and posting. I do hope this continues, and that cover songs continue as a sort of indefinite time period challenge.

Well, I'm not horrendously good at it, truth be told. This version is recorded in an E - D - C - D progression, and I originally had "figured it out" in a "C - B - A - G", it was my girlfriend who suggested the second one and it did sound better that way. Luckily at that point the only tonal instruments I had recorded were the bass and a guiding guitar that didn't make it to the final mix.

I had previously done another cover of a song by buriednexttoyou, but I didn't didn't try to hard to figure out all the chords in that one, I just kinda did my free version.

Thx for that, it feels cool that someone notices. And I've been meaning to "come back" for a while, but things had been hectic with work. Hopefully now I'll have some time to catch up (both on listening and in recording and posting new stuff).

This is super awesome. It's true that seeing a mefite cover another mefite gives a nice sense of community.

Wow, I can't hardly identify it as a cover even listening to them back to back. That's pretty fun.

Also, "clicking amble" doesn't make any more sense to me than "clicking anvil" does.
