(Everybody Likes) Internal Mics

July 9, 2008 11:06 PM

Today cortex and Hoopo wrote, recorded and posted quick songs done with their Mac's internal microphone and GarageBand, a couple of hours apart. I've decided to make it a trifecta.

The lead vocals and uke were done in a single take through the internal mic, and the backing vocals are three more internal mic tracks. The rest is GarageBand internal synths and effects, quick and dirty the way you know you like it.

Now this is the way GarageBand was meant to be used! (You know, this "write something real quick and record in one take with an internal mic" thing could be a pretty good MeFi Music challenge...)

Anyway, nice little tune, and great vocal performance. And hey, the sound quality isn't half bad, all things considered. I'm impressed!

That's neat. I'll never turn down a ukulele track. (And yeah, the internal mics on Macs do sound pretty good, don't they?)

Wow, yeah that is clean. Are you using an effect of some sort? My songs are done with the Macbook internal mic and definitely don't sound like that, especially with multiple tracks.

I did run the main vocal and uke through "Male RnB Vocals" (in the Vocals effects section) with a bit of echo and a bit more reverb. The cleanliness is probably more directly related to it being late at night and completely quiet; that, or where I was sitting relative to the mic. Do you also have a MacBook Pro?

And thanks to all for the kind words! My favorite songs are the ones I write in a hurry...
