This is my take on a beautiful Daniel Johnston song that I learned from melissa may and sleepy pete.

It's also my first real go at recording something in garageband, which I feel like I'm starting to get a hang of.

Thanks. I like how it came together, and I got close to what I wanted in one afternoon which was pretty satisfying.

Harmonizing with myself is pretty nice, but you should hear it when Melissa sings lead on it. I don't know if there are any recordings of that kicking around; I should see if I can talk her into coming over and cutting a vocal track for me.

Yeah, it's great to hear that rich, simple and honest piano, your vocal harmonizing sounds great, and the harmonica solo (and slight return there at the end) are a perfect touch.

Is this the second Daniel Johnston cover (here's mine) to appear at MeFiMu, or, I wonder, have there been more?

Well, there's these two songs from item that actual feature Daniel, but that doesn't really count as a cover I guess. And I don't think either of them ever posted it here, but there's a cover of Walkin' the Cow on a Harvey Girls cover album.

Well, I don't know the original version, but this one is really beautiful. Thanks Cortex. I forgot for a little while that a harp was also a harmonica so I was waiting for something really orchestral at some point (like the london symphony orchestra lending a hand) but anyway your command of garageband seems good enough. The different instruments really fit together.

This is great. I've long been tempted to cover a song of DJ's, but have always worried that covering a song of his would be sort of pointless, in that they're almost not even SONGS so much as they are insanely emotional, private (or ironically public) pieces of his soul laid bare onto a cassette - if that makes any sense whatsoever.

However, this is actually one of my favorite tunes you've posted here and you've done the song justice and added your own flavor. Also, the harmonica solo kicks ass.
