I took an old 45rpm of a Japanese folk song and started dropping the needle. Took those bits, sliced 'em up and moved 'em around a little, then added some synth and electric piano, some udu and guiro. Et voila! Le Japonisme!

mica: yes, the percussion is from me, too. That's the udu (clay pot drum) and guiro, that I referred to in the description. Those acoustic percussion items (as well as the synths and electric piano parts) were all played, that is, not sequenced or programmed. I just played along to the record bits that I'd chopped up and subsequently arranged into a certain order.

I like it a lot.

I'd love to hear what you could do with the bits and pieces of the 'Tokyo Drifter' soundtrack. I found floating about on the web. (Think enka and 60's japanese jazz). They were recorded from the dvd, so there's bits of the movie dialogue/sound mixed in with them.
