The electric guitar was the perfect addition to this. I laughed reading your description along with the tune.

I smell a challenge...

Actually, it totally fits the under a minute challenge. But I meant a challenge on making local news intro music.

That is ridiculously on the nose, sir. Well done.

This is awesome.

Yeah, this is perfect. And I love the idea of this spawning a "News Theme" challenge.

This is so great! A challenge needs to be done, yes.

I love the idea of a challenge, but there's no way I could make anything half this good.

This is awesome because it's true.

Maybe a more general "genre theme" challenge, to give folks more latitude in what they feel like spoofing.
posted by cortex at 2:32 PM on November 20, 2008

I'd like to see the spoofing to include the 1970s news themes, those big, bombastic, horn-driven orchestral themes like KABC or WPVI had. Or the cheery, sunny "Hello News" stuff like they had on one of my hometown stations.

Actually... I want cortex to fashion a cheery "Hello News" type song.

Thanks all.

I would love to hear other takes on the news intro but it may be a really tough challenge since it is pretty specific. Maybe, as suggested by cortex, a general them like "cheesiness" could work. Perhaps we could get a little more specific though like "power cheese" or something.

You got your cheese Morning Zoo DJ stings, your cheese 80s Buddy Cop Show themes, your cheese Japanese Horror Film J-Pop Ending Credits songs, your cheese High School Fight Song choruses...

....cheese elevator music, cheese porno music, cheese movie trailers, cheese freecreditreport.com commercial, cheese.......

I heard this one yesterday, and it's so perfectly well done, I thought it was a cover from an actual news program. Wow.

This put a HUGE smile on my face! VERY well done! I was really waiting for one of your joke anchors to kick in with some copy!

Awesome! When I worked at a multimedia production company in the 90s they had all kind of "stock" music discs - craptastic "Latin" songs, faux Stereo MCs and other peppy numbers in convenient lengths. They had one disc of news-style stings which I thought was excellent and wish I'd made a copy of.

This brings a tear to my eye. Beautiful!

Hysterical. I laughed. Why do all local news stations look/sound the same anyway?

This really good.

Yes, how did that genre of sorts emerge at all? Thanks for this.

Oh and stay classy, San Diego!

This is so on the nose, as said above, that I think you may be missing a possible revenue stream.

There's got to be a CBS affiliate in Meridian, Mississippi or somewhere that needs a new intro for its midday newscast between Rachel Ray and Days of Our Lives.
