I like a lot of Prince, but I've never cared too much for this song.
The whole "horse" thing he has going on...it's like he's a 12 year-old boy who is way too impressed with himself for discovering what a metaphor is.
The stupidest line ever in a song: "she had a pocket full of horses/Trojans and some of them used." But then he keeps going and going with the horses, jockeys, etc.
At one point after I sang the line (which is hard to sing loud and uninhibited at night in a quiet house when your family is sleeping) "I'm going to try to tame your little red love machine," I said, "'cause it's a vagina!" but I took it out because the song was already shaping up to be goofy enough.

Anyhow, I kind of went for a Sun Studios sort of thing.

The choice of the "Sun" sound was very cool, and you got it down perfectly. And you are up to three requests now, what speed, I gotta catch up.

Thanks guys. I felt kind of embarrassed of this one this morning, like a musical hangover. It was done so quick and just posted right away; I regretted it today, like a drunk dial or something.

mica: why, that's my giant standup bass, can't you tell? Garageband "upright bass" played thru midi with the Moog.

Funny (to me) story:
I had to do several tracks of those low, moany background vocals, over and over, trying to sound like the Jordinaires. This morning my wife said she had a dream last night that there was some kind of animal moaning in the alley beside our house. She maid the noise and it was exactly my moany singing.

I caught myself really paying attention to the lyrics since you mentioned the horses/trojan thing.

I can't believe you feel embarrassed of it. And the garageband bass does the job alright, doesn't it? This weekend I recorded the bass of that other song with an acoustic guitar and then modified it with a software, some bars it sounds ok, some bars it sounds like an electric and some bars it sounds like a cheap keyboard. A 21st century schizoid bass.
