Jingle Bells (1993)

Did someone say "minor-key Jingle Bells"?

I have a better broken version of "Jingle Bells", which I'll post later, but I can't resist posting this first--I doubt I'll ever find an exact rendition of a mefimusicchallenge hypothetical example just sitting on my hard drive again.

This is beautiful, really. You turn a boring ol' ditty into a stirring opus. Awesome.

I would totally expect any minor key rendition of this song to be uber cheezy, but this worked out wondefuly. What Burhanistan and ORthey said.

Oh, there come the lyrics. I LOL'd.

This is gonna be a very, very fruitful challenge!

The singing took me off guard. Now my mind is trying to resolve the dichotomy between the beauty of the music and the absurdity of the lyrics.

The recorder or pipes or whatever is what took it over the top for me.

I thought I was making it funnier by cranking up the lugubriosity, but the joke's on me, because I get more people commenting on being moved by it than by my songs that are (1) meant to be sad and (2) competently performed. There's a lesson there somewhere.

This is gonna be a very, very fruitful challenge!

I've been doing these every year since 1993, so... y'all are in trouble.

Oh man, I totally forgot about those lyrics, I haven't heard that since grade school. It was a really moving piece up until the singing than I just started to embrace how funny and awesome it is to make Christmas songs sound depressing.

Heh. It's as if Dracula had his blood-nog spiked one Christmas Eve. And it's also awesome. Well done!
