We Had A Good Thing

January 2, 2009 2:24 PM

Sappy pop tune I recorded over the holiday break.

Feel free to suggest a style or similar artists I can use to describe this music to others. I'm always looking for input on this. Last time a few people mentioned Josh Rouse and Glen Phillips (both great suggestions).

I'll probably remix/retouch this later this year, so thoughts and criticism on the production is also welcome. I already have a few ideas, but I'd like to hear what the MeFiMu peeps have to say. Enjoy :)

Goo Goo Dolls? Gin Blossoms? Not quite either, but if you said those I would not be surprised by this song.

It's pretty damn good, and well done.

You seem to have good pop sensibilities... If i had to suggest similar artists I would go with the mid-late 90's pop\rock groups... Dishwalla, Splender, Goo Goo Dolls, Gin Blossoms (as ctmf suggested).

Well done - good song.

Nice production, seconding the early 90s radio stuff mentioned above. I'm also getting a real strong Ben Gibbard (Death Cab) vibe off the first half.

er mid/late 90s rather than early . . .

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Hm, Goo Goo Dolls...that could be both a blessing and a curse :)

Your voice and singing style sort of remind me of Mae (circa Destination: Beautiful), although songwriting is definitely in the same vein as the Goo Goo Dolls as others have suggested. And that's a good thing.
