D-Mass vs. Thirsty (AKA Time of Year Instrumental)

March 7, 2009 2:33 PM

A collaboration between myself and Ottawa-based producer/DJ/bass&keyboard-player/singer/rapper/radio-show-host (did I miss anything?) D-Mass from a few years back arranged and recorded in his old living room.

This one day, D-Mass had one of his turntables hooked up to the computer and was working on beats when I arrived. He pulled these 2 records out, and I kinda picked out a couple of bits I wanted to sample—the drums and the jingly thingy--and arranged them in ACID on his computer. It kinda just came together, but it wasn’t quite done. We played with the speed and structure on some parts, and then later D-Mass played the bassline, so by the next weekend when I came by again this was done.

This sounds like the kind of hiphop a '50s housewife might vacuum the toaster to. Sweet.

Haha, I like that, Karlos! But I wonder if vacuuming toasters is a part of most peoples' weekly chores that I've somehow neglected for 30 years, or if that picture is more easily explained by Dexedrine abuse.

I really like the track and I can't believe the picture. Both together make a perfect post. As I've said before, Hoopo, I really like your brand of hip hop, and you do it really well. Please keep them coming.
