When You're Out of My Mind

May 6, 2009 10:09 PM

A nice little love song, for iterations of "little" that involve a six minute runtime.

Lyrics, music, lead vocals, and organ (Magnus Custom De Luxe) by Melissa Nanney. Guitar (Hohner-Gruhn) and backing vocals by me. Together we are Minor Vine.

Recorded through an SM-57 and TonePort UXII in GarageBand in about two hours this evening.

Minor Vine? Did you guys just start (judging by the page views)? What a voice. The sudden high-ness is so good. The vibrato is pulled off well, I think, without being showy. Ooh, the back up vocals just came in. Very nice. Heavenly layers at the end, woah.

We've been around a while, but we just switched MySpace profiles yesterday.

Mel's voice is like crack for me. I could listen to it all the time. Also, she just found out she has strep throat, and we recorded that last night, so you should hear her when she's at her prime.

This takes a long time to build but it's worth it, especially when it drops back a little and brings in the backing vox, and then just keeps bringing them in. Yeah, the whole ending sequence is just luxurious.

(Corduroy -- check out this song -- one of my all-time MeFiMu favorites.)

Oh, wow, that one is beautiful! Thanks for pointing it out to me, Karlos (and thanks for making it, Minor Vine!).

This is gorgeous. Thanks for posting it.

After hearing how breathtaking the last minute is, I wish that it came a minute or two earlier, or maybe was foreshadowed with a mini-version earlier in the tune.
