The hippies' lament....

This is basically a song of mouring for how the idealism and optimism of the late '60's was erased by the cynicism and greed that gradually swallowed it up. It may have been naive and unrealistic, but better that than the sort of philosophy espoused by the likes of Margaret Thatcher: "There is no such thing as society, there are just families and individuals". That's probably slightly misquoted, but never mind. I look forward to pissing on her grave.

Nice changes here. I hate cynicism. Not sure what that has to do with the MT quote, though... :) No matter, piss away!

That 'oh-oh-oh-oh' is reminiscent of something David Byrne might've done. It's the hook of the song!

While you're pissing on her grave, be sure and say hi to Elvis Costello, who'll be there tramping the dirt down.
