A "cover" of my "first" song.
OK, so this is not exactly my first song, and it's more of a remix than a cover, but it's the first pop song I felt confident enough about to release publicly -- on the
Metafilter compilation two and a half years ago!
A lot has changed since then, but I'm still fond of the song. I think the most embarrassing thing in retrospect is my vocals. My intonation is all quavery at times, and what's up with that weird pseudo-British accent? (For this new version, I kept most of the original track, and added more vocals, beats, textures, filters and fake instruments. The original feels very smoothed out and I wanted something spikier, something people might dance to.)
I do think that the meficomp had a lot to do with me gaining the confidence and sea legs to actually get out there and write and record and perform more songs, so that two and a half years later, I finally have an
album coming out. I'm not sure that
Space Opera would exist without the Metafilter community -- so I guess this is my way of saying thank you!
(I had hoped to release a more honest first song, one that I wrote in high school, but in case I don't get around to it, at least there's this.)
Whole thing sounds great, man. I'm glad you did this. And congrats on the album!
