Ill Met By Moonlight (Medicine Man)

A small libation from The Gin Palace*

Comments welcome as ever. I'm told that the outro is too long - but I've heard this track so many times that my ears are numb to it and I don't know now if it's good, bad or indifferent. And I've used the same rhythm track on my last three recordings - which I'm not very happy about, but it just seems to be yielding a run of material and I guess I should milk it while the going's good. Weird.....

Lyric:

He comes bearing gifts from near and far
He’s got them on the back seat of his car
He’s got powders, he’s got potions
He’s got pills and he’s got lotions
The medicine man
(he’s) the medicine man

For a fiver a bag
Yes, just a fiver a bag
You can enter heaven
Suffer the little children to come unto me
I will distribute my largesse
And by and by
I will accumulate a small fortune
At your expense.

He’s got friends in places high and low
Slipping, sliding in the undertow
He’s all heart, he’s all emotion
So much love could drown an ocean
The medicine man
Such a generous man
(Oh what a nice guy)

I’m the king
I got the bling
In my space no birds do sing (you betcha baby)
This ain’t no bluff
I got enough
But me? I never touch the stuff...

I don’t do no nine to five
I’m the coolest man alive
I’m flying with it
They’re writhing in it
Ain’t nothing here for you

You can turn the other cheek
Mmm, from across the street
Tell them about it
They’ll scream about it
It don’t mean shit to me

He’s got relatives in every town
Running every number going down
He’s got power, he’s got glory
He’s got everybody’s story
The medicine man
He’s the memory man
(Watch your back)

*The Gin Palace is what I've christened my home studio - a place where delusions of grandeur persist amidst the reality of dust, booze-fuelled self-deception and stale cigarette smoke, hope rarely triumphs over experience and big ideas are exposed in the cold light of day as....well....not so big after all....

There's one thing that's for certain, and that is that the Gin Palace can turn out a tight, professional mix on a consistent basis. Lovely.

Oh, I love that bass. And your vocals on this are pretty great.

The outro is longer than I would have done, but I think it works ok -- it it goes through some changes and stuff and I wouldn't want to lose the actual ending sequence.

Looks like it missed this the first time around. This kicks ass! Although this is really well produced, it still has a great "jam" quality. Very cool!

(the outro was just right for me too btw.)
