Thoughts of Rain

This is a chill instrumental easy listening rock piece. Drums, bass, guitar, and saxophones accompanied by a storm.

This is almost a year old and I just dug it up. This and a few others that are similar were written and recorded after a while on the road last summer. This one felt a little incomplete at the beginning so I added the sax.

I like it, but if you were ever to poke at again I think the snare would work better in the piece with brushes. (But maybe I hit play hoping for more of a jazz vibe)

Interesting comment. Was it the saxophone that made you think it would be jazzy. I'm not sure I'll go back and change it but that could definitely work. Thanks.

I think the issue with the snare is that it is rather driving, and the rest of the music doesn't seem to want to keep up with it. Maybe fewer (rather than more gentle) snare hits would chill it out more? I love the guitar and bass work, though. The guitar sound is nice and mellow.

After some sleep, it might just be that the snare is a bit front-and-center (and, as abc123xyzinfinity says, driving), but it isn't doing much. Brushes would mellow it out (they also have a bit more of a rain-like sound, which might work for it), but adjusting the mix could do that to.

There, I'm done. I'll let the people who actually know what they're doing comment further one way or the other.

[And I still like the piece]

Hm. I think you guys pursuaded me to revisit this one. I'm starting to imagine some other possibilities where I hadn't before. Good comments. Thanks both of you.

This is really beautiful and soothing. I don't have much of a problem with the snare, though I find myself wanting the beat to change up a bit because after a while the 'driving' nature of the snare (as noted above) starts to overwhelm the tune - at least for me.

Really lovely.

I actually liked the rhythm. It sounds very Motown to me, and the rest of the song is completely different, so it "paints" a very unique scene. More than changing the snare, I agree with ORthey, a small break at some point could be nice. But I like the piece overall.
