Splitting Ring

Melodic, slightly proggish, slightly folky hard rock.

I'm surprised you haven't had any more comments yet about this. Yea, this is hard rock, but the Irish(?) traditional sounding lyrics really make this interesting and enjoyable. Right on!

That said, it's technically good too. Nice recording. Pardon me while I listen to it again.

This brings me back in a good way. I love the acoustic guitar doubling in the intro/coda. Very effective. Excellent vocal-of-the-times too. This might have been a hit in the 70s with a bit of polish and a great lyric (caveat: I never listen to the words so I don't know how good or bad your words are). This obviously took some work and it is a lot of fun, as much fun as a lot of Yes and Genesis music, for sure. Marked as a favourite.

Absolutely, this is really fantastic, the type of music I love. I would totally buy the cd.

We are primitive inside
All our roots have come untied
What a shame we can't perceive
The way the splitting ring divides
They have fallen all apart,
The many factors of our art
No hope for peace between
The splitting ring and shattered heart

If we all but close our eyes
Let our nature stabilize
We may yet fit in between
The splitting earth and shattered skies
In a land of our design
Where the tangles can unwind
And the burdens fall away
From our taut and troubled minds
(If we all but close our eyes...)

A unity in parts,
The laws of science, laws of art
Lie manifold, unbound, and scattered wide
And the knot, once so complex
Is but a shadow in the excandescent
Fury where the splitting ring divides

By the rising of the sea,
I swear I'll find a way to be
The one who finally resurrects the old ideals
A transcendental mind
For this misbegotten time
A harvester of undiscovered fields

We are naught but wolves at heart
And no science and no art
Will ever overcome our underlying predatory part
And the fractured songs we sing
Will never be enough to bring
A reconciliation of the shattered heart and splitting ring...
