Monthly MeFiMu Challenge thread - August edition

So, here in my neck o' the woods it's already August 1, but many of you western hemisphere types still have a few hours to get your VU&N covers in under the deadline. I'm counting about 35 submissions in as of right now (with just a few hours left in the month!), which is, of course, below the number of folks who signed on, but, hey, that's life in the slow lane! I'm hoping for an avalanche of last-minute masterpieces. But meanwhile... on to the next! So without further ado...

AUGUST 2009 MEFIMU CHALLENGE: Let's go with MajorDundee's "write a Metafilter music jingle or ringtone" idea (his original suggestion here). Seems perfect for August, somehow. No big epic, grandiose thing, just a little jingle. Of course, it's gotta be GOOD, you understand. Real GOOD. And it has to clock in at 30 seconds or less. You can also think of it as a 'sound logo' kind of thing, like the 'Intel Inside' 4-note logo, or whatever. That kind of thing is probably very challenging, in fact. So, get to it, y'all!

Yeah...we did 3 different versions of Femme Fatale: one by man vs sun, 2 by me. We're actually halfway distributing our "Pasty Anglophiles Rape Andy Warhol" as a full album.

Deadlines are for wimps! I'm sticking to the originally proposed "two months or so" timeline, and will have a VU+N submission forthcoming in the next several weeks. :)

Also, I object to the terms of this months challenge -- does it really have to be GOOD?

I couldn't do justice to the Velvet Underground. I'm gonna hold out for the great Metafilter Residents cover challenge (I would suggest Mark of the Mole or The Commercial Album as good starting points for that.)

Tons of great VU covers grew out of that last challenge, though. I enjoyed it very much.

Just to make clear on the challenge, the jingle/ringtone/whatever should actually be about MeFiMu, right? Or is it just for anything relevant to it, or totally open (as long as it's within 30 seconds)?

LOOM - I think if poss it should have at least some relation to MeFiMu, but as abstract and/or obscure as you like. I mean abstract to the point of "what the fuck is that all about??" is fine by me. But if that's not a runner - whatever you like man. After everyone's hard graft on VU+N, main thing is that this should be fun (cue brittle PA announcement "You will all have fun, starting.... now. Those caught not having fun will be in the slammer faster than shit through a goose"). Personally, I think the sillier the better....I mean I'm trying at the moment to locate a decent sample of cow mooing......

...oh and I nearly forgot. Anything over 30 seconds will result in electrodes being attached to your knackers and you being forced to do a perfect execution of Gene Kelly's routine from "Singing In The Rain" accompanying yourself on a Uke. On roller skates. With a floppy hat. Hope that's clear.
