Burn Me All Away (Feat. Sleepy Pete)

August 3, 2009 3:46 PM

With all the Sleepy Pete/Melissa May nostalgia going around, I thought it was probably time to post this little tune Sleepy Pete and I collaborated on long ago.

I made this during a little phase of trying to make the next "Soft Bulletin" album by the Flaming Lips, and copying the way they used synthesizers. I emailed it to Sleepy Pete and Melissa May to see what they thought, since I knew they used a lot of computer generated sounds. One way or another (I think I just flat out asked), Sleepy Pete ended up doing some pretty sweet percussion. This must have been around the beginning of this year.

So anyway, here it is. I don't actually remember how to play this song, so it's probably at it's end. Some levels are probably funny, and all that stuff. The percussion gets going just a wee bit in the middle, and then freaks out at the end.

Love the breakdown at 2:40. Your harmonies have really improved over the past two years, as has your voice, it's sounding good! This is a great collab.

Corduroy, I'm really glad you're still around posting music. You're always great to listen to. I didn't think I was going to enjoy a percussion freak out on this, but it worked for me by adding another pretty strong emotional element. Very cool stuff!

Nice. I like its texture and sense of space.

The mellotron (or mellotron-like) synth patches that you're working with on this song are great.
