Stain

It's so hard to see through the filth and the grime.

Nice to hear something in 6/8, it's a groove that doesn't get enough love.

I like the way you ended the song, too. Nice touch. Oh, and, great singing!

Your "bgm" tag... here in Japan that means "background music". Is that the meaning here? If so, I reckon you're being tongue-in-cheek?

I agree with flapjax about the time signature. I read his comment before the song started playing and I thought "really? can it be so noticeable?" and then the song started and it was.

Around 3:00 there is a sound that I'm not sure if it's a keyboard, or a guitar with an e-bow, it's easy to miss it consciously, but it complements the space quite nicely. Another thing that's worth mentioning is that you achieved a great balance between the acoustic and the electric guitars in the mix. (and yes, the ending is brilliant).

Great one.

A lot of layers. Really like it. Heavy but soft at the same time. Maybe it's the 6/8, maybe it's the lush distortion.

..and you're asking me about making good records! What??! This is really good - nice sound, good vocal and I agree with the comments above about the time-signature. Refreshing to hear something a bit different. Nice one choco!

That high singing was so, so different than what I was expecting. Is that also a woman's voice or a really nice falsetto? This is awesome. Really well layered. Something about this is very inspiring... like, you could totally slip comfortably into a great sound that is very chococat, but here is something that (at least to me, though I'm not an expert on your catalog) feels so different and works just as wel.

Yeah, this is pretty great. It's much more chugging than you usually are.

This is really great. It's got a really nice feel, and I love the sounds. That SMASSSSSH from the snare is wicked.

I'd turn the main vocal track up a tick or two through most of the track (leave it buried, but maybe not quite so much), but it's a minor nit to pick. It'd also be neat to pitch-down and degrade the drum loop as it fades at the end.

chococat, I almost always like the music you post, but this is just beyond good. The guitar playing is killer and that high vocal line is nothing short of awesome. I'm late to the party, so maybe you won't see this, but -- could you post the lyrics? This is a fantastic song.

I'm late to this party, but this is really swell, and pretty haunting. A different feel from a lot of your other stuff. Great work.

Just blasted this again on headphones. Pow!

Thanks everybody.

It's actually my initials, but I love that it's become background music.

Is that also a woman's voice or a really nice falsetto?
Heh. That's all me and all man.

I'd turn the main vocal track up a tick or two
You're entirely right. I just really wanted them low 'cause it wasn't really a lyric song; I wanted it sort of dark and dirty and almost impossible to make out what I was saying. Which brings us to...

could you post the lyrics?
Ya, I never really do that. It's kind of embarrassing for me, like I'm saying
READ AND LEARN MY PEARLS OF POETRY AND WISDOM, FOR I AM THE LIZARD KING
when really they're pretty silly for the most part.
But I don't want to seem all precious about it either, so here.

Hey, thanks for posting the lyrics. Nothing to be ashamed of, they're pretty great. Makes me enjoy the song even more. I was listening through some of your back catalog tonight, and discovered this song's close relation to "Same Dark Road". I feel like listening to that and this track back-to-back gives me some additional insight into your songwriting, which is really interesting.

Ya, about 15 minutes into writing this one I realized that it was basically Same Dark Road again. But I liked it, so I kept going. Sometimes that happens.

Heh, y'know what's funny choco? The other day I found myself daydreaming and humming away to what I thought was Stain, and then I realised I was actually humming to Same Dark Road.

So anyway yeah, they are the same but they're also different and both are awesome.
