Ashokan Farewell

My string trio playing 'Ashokan Farewell,' a new American tune.

If you know anything about Ken Burns, then you know this song.

Yeah, years back when I first watched the Burns Civil War series on PBS, I couldn't get this damned beautiful little melody out of my head. I do think he overused it throughout the series, but it sure is a pretty piece of music.

A nice tune, very nicely played! I've always found it interesting how Ashokan Farewell came on to the scene relatively recently (1982, I think) and was written by a known, living musician, but has largely entered the same pool of traditional songs with tunes going back 150+ years.

Really beautiful. We don't have enough string trios here at MeMu.

This is fantastic. Was this also recorded at your home?
