Fall In Silence

Sort of an odd tune, relying primarily on one chord. The lyrics actually mean something but that might not be very obvious. Features my dad on alto sax.

I've been meaning to get my dad in on some recordings, but the saxophone is such a loud instrument and my walls are so thin I've never felt comfortable having him blare the sax in my little apartment. But I'm housesitting in a giant house for a while, so we've been jamming a lot more and I started doing some recordings with him.

I think there's a little minor clipping on this track but I decided to let it be for now. The title comes from a lyric that ended up on the cutting room floor.

That's cool you're playing with your dad.

We don't get much sax around here. Kudos to your dad! What sort of stuff does he normally play?

I like the way the whole songs sorts of shifts at around the two-minute mark -- I prefer the second half -- it's very hypnotic. Cool!

(Maybe we should have a "dad" tag -- one of my favorite MeFiMu songs is this one.)

So great, man. Your voice and strings have a kind of ancient/timeless quality in this song and your Dad's sax makes it even more ethereal.

Beautiful stuff ORthey and ORthey's Dad!

If Metafilter exists for another twenty years, and I get to hear you, ORthey, singing twenty years from now (possibly with yourself from today?), I think I will be a very fulfilled person. P.S. love the sax, and the open ending...

This is really captivating. You have a very distinct, very please voice and way of singing. Very easy to listen to.
