Jasmine & Seashells

July 9, 2010 2:35 PM

You know that rush of memory that happens sometimes with a certain scent or sound? I've tried to evoke that through writing a song within a song. Not for me to judge whether it's worked or not....

Here she comes
Sweet Adeline
Skin like gold
And eyes that shine
Here she comes
In summertime
What will it take to make her mine?

Nothing flash
Nothing fly
The girl got class
This girl's got style
Here she said love is kind
And when she'd gone
The sky broke down and cried

She was my sunlight
She was my rain
She was the one and only burning flame
You can try
I appreciate it
You're a real good friend of mine
I can't shake this feeling if I try
It just seems too much to deny
Every thought I have she's in it
Every day and every minute
And although this pain will ease
I just hope my heart don't freeze

Something lost
And never found
Something past
Gone to ground
In the scent of jasmine
or seashell sounds
Love is banal
It's not profound

So here she comes
Sweet Adeline
Here she comes
In summertime
She's in a corner of my mind
Eternal youth
And eyes that shine.

I listened!
Don't get down about it. It's summer and people are away/busy.
You managed to capture an element of the summer of...I'm guessing 1985, for me.
The slow, lazy part...sort of in a Style Council-ish kind of way, Long Hot Summer and all that.
Nicely done.

Thanks for that choco. I'm just kidding about no-one listening - fully aware of the hit and miss nature of uploads at this - or any - time of year. Actually, listening back to it, it's really not very summery at all! Sure summer is mentioned, but the overall sound would not personally remind me of summer in any way. So a rather inappropriate submission for the challenge! And, listening to it in the car, it badly needs a remix - the electronic percussion is way too obtrusive and some other bits need to be louder.
