On A Combine

September 23, 2010 8:02 AM

Wrote this on my friends farm in Iowa. A good "double" meaning song concerning genetic engineering, both intentional and accidental, animal and vegetable.

In Iowa there are hybrids
and second cousins
And systematic studies amongst the dozens
about the soybeans and the corn
about the Christ and the Lutheran thorn
about the wind and the seasons scorned
between the rows of the yet unborn
Corn.

There's a combine.
There's a combine.
There's a combine.
There's a combine!

Now in Iowa they use words like
sling and slang
and your only brother
is in your only gang

Between the soybeans and the corn
between the calm and the wretched storm
between the sick and the new age cure

It's a combine.
It's a combine.
It's a combine.
It's a combine!

Now in Iowa
there are still things to bear in mind
about prevailing winds
and axes to grind

Between the soybeans
and the corn
There's and urge to sleep
and an urge to perform
seed the view of the outback birds
on the back of a cow
isn't that absurd!

On a combine.
On a combine.
On a combine.
On a combine!

Nicely recorded - some interesting stuff going on here. Comparisons are odious of course, but this reminds me, for some reason, of Stan Ridgeway.....(?)

At first I wasn't sure but by the end I was totally grooving to this one. Good stuff, man!
