I tried really hard to keep my strings section in line, but they're doing whatever they want.

Seriously, this is just background music for a haunted house or issuing candy scenario. It's ALL Korg Triton LE. Didn't doing anything fancy with panning or anything, but I think it works. Cheers!

Nice to hear you working with some unexpected sounds here, sns!

*puts on Official Critics Hat* - The intervals in use for the first minute or so (played on the chimey little toy-piano-like instrument) evoke the mood of the opening of a child-related horror film: something where little junior is possessed by a demon, starts wielding knives, etc. This is all well and scary. But I think your string motifs are falling a little short in the fright department: they seem relatively benign, melodically. I recommend listening to some Bernard Herrmann for inspiration in this area. I also think more sonic thickness, more powerful ominousness, in the driving rhythmic part that emerges later would be a good idea. This is where the music should portend that, well, all kindsa hell is about to break loose! And I'm not feeling that quite urgently enough.

Ah, that's an excellent critique, flapjax! This really does just trudge along like a not so scary cow. Thanks for the Herrmann link, I'm off to check it out. Your sense of "what's missing here" is uncanny because I was originally going to riff on the "Now I lay Me down to sleep" prayer that was to end with a thunderous crescendo, but decided that it would be in poor taste.

Maybe I WILL do that, and just claim that the Devil made me do it!

Ok, listening to Herrmann...

Yes, I totally get it. Many thanks!

As you know sns, me old mate, rock 'n' roll is founded on iconoclasm and generally getting up the nose of the establishment. So when you get to the point of thinking "this might be poor taste" it generally means, in my book, that you're going in the right direction. In other words, good taste is for pussies! We demand bad taste, and lots of it!

Seriously - I think you should start that rhythmic stuff earlier in the track and, hell (sic), recite the Lord's Prayer backwards or whatever. I like the sinister windchime and the off-kilter melody they play btw. I guess the whole thing just needs a little more focus? I guess another option would be to make a video for it? Interestingly, I played about 1 minute of your track and then started my remix of There's A Ghost In My House and the two pieces kind of blended nicely into each other!
