Command Performance

May 12, 2011 5:46 AM

A future challenge idea wherein a chain of volunteers is gathered and lined up in the order they volunteered. Each person then commands the next link in the chain to cover a song. Fiendishly, the command has to include a reference - however oblique - to the previous song. For instance, majordundee commands unSane to perfom "September Gurls", unSane commands Flapjax to perform "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" etc etc. The final person in the chain commands the first, thereby completing the loop (or loopy, in this case). Hey - it's just an idea.....

I likey.

But I don't think the references (from song to song) should be allowed to be too oblique. I think they should be exactly as you've shown in your example, that is: there must be at least one word in the song title of the current one as the next one. So after "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" I might challenge Karlos to do "Hot Fun in the Summertime" who's challenge sns to do "Summertime Blues" and so forth.

Only problem: one word song title selections won't work. But, hey, no one dared to cover "Kiss" anyway, right? (Prince's lawyers are badass)

It would be cool therefore to do a thinly veiled cover and call it "Kiss My Arse". Yeah. Oh yeah, oh fuckin' ye........ahhhh.. I mean, it would be cool for someone else to do a cover and call it that. Someone with a lot of money perhaps. not me, Mr Lawyer sir....

The alternative (and better) title for this challenge is "Chain Of Command". Which sounds like a shit video game. And very probably is.

We could still say "don't be oblique" but still allow a little flexibility; a leap from "November Rain" to either "Long December" (a ha, month theme!) or "Stormy Weather" (a ha, precipitation) could be allowable in a pinch where it made for a more compelling suggestion/fit than a strict word-to-word.

As long as it's not "well, both have a five letter word in them" hijinks, it'd probably still be okay.

If this month's challenge is the "clinker-festooned arsehole of all MeFiMu challenges" (thanks Major), this could very well end up as the Human Centipede of all MeFiMu challenges.
