Gonna Have to Let You Down

October 5, 2011 12:06 PM

Pantless snarky powerpop for the October challenge. Video proof.

I had a skeletal backing track for this knocking around so I decided to finish it today before I put my pants on. Pantless video is here.

A bit rough and ready as I didn't have time to tighten up the drums or do anything fancy with the mix, but you get the idea...

GONNA HAVE TO LET YOU DOWN
words/music © 2011 J Brownlow

Snake oil, smells like what you're sellin'
All God's little monkeys, they want to get to heaven
You say I gotta pray for that judgement day
Or they'll send me down to Hell and turn the heat up to eleven
Well, I hate to disappoint you but I'm gonna have to let you down

Fine girls grindin' to the beat
You call 'em hos and bitches and the package is complete
You cut a finer figure when you're finger's on the trigger
But karma is a bitch and if you think that you look bigger
Well, I hate to disappoint you but I'm gonna have to let you down
I'm gonna have to let you down
I'm gonna have to let you down
So nice to have met you
I never will forget you
Don't let it upset you
But I'm gonna have to let you down
Perfect skin and a million dollar smile
Waving to the cameras like it's going out of style
But the rich stay rich and the poor stay poor
Four years later and you're knockin' at my door
Well, I hate to disappoint you but I'm gonna have to let you down

CHORUS

Well I've listened very carefully to all that you good folks have to say
Now please don't let the screen door hit your ass on the way out today

Blue eyes crying on my shoulder
You don't believe a single word that I told ya
Think I'm gonna leave ya, tryin' to deceive
Wastin' all my time and money just so I can cheat ya
Sorry, babe, but I'm afraid I'm gonna have to let you down

CHORUS

Not bad for a guy with no pants!

The key changes after the guitar solo have a cool 60s flavor, along with the organ. I dig it.

Cheers! As a bonus, here's youtube video which should play inline.

Cool!
I love the edit to the guitar solo footage.

As an aside, I am jealous of your studio space. It's literally the opposite of mine...I am in a dark, dark basement with 3 floors above me, I barely have room to stand up.
Sometimes we daydream about cashing in on our downtown T.O. house; looking on the MLS site makes us drool over what we could get for the money in a rural house.

That's what we did, Chococat. Never regretted it for a second. A few more friends of ours have recently done the same thing, moving up to the area between Collingwood and Owen Sound. If you can swing the work situation I wouldn't think twice about it. If you want to chat more about the practicalities, send me a memail.

Hey that was FUN! Well done! I love your workspace too. The camera placement makes it look like a chapel. Very cool.

Hah, sns, you think *that* end looks like a chapel, check this out.

if you poke around in the neighbouring pix on Flickr you can see the whole thing (during a brief interlude when it had just been tidied up!)
