Schwankfeld's Blues

October 14, 2011 9:17 AM

Off of my combo's demo, this is a 12 bar blues I wrote in college, the changes are a little... non-standard.

The recordings a few years old, and since I've had my demos mysteriously end up on bars I-tunes play lists before I make the tracks pretty short.

I'm on bass.

Thoroughly enjoyed this too. Would not have made it as a 12-bar at all. I can see why it might end up on rotation in a bar, too.

Thanks.

If memory serves, I wrote this for an assignment, we all had to write\arrange a 12 bar blues. I just felt like giving the group who got stuck playing (and I was one of them) the arrangements a little bit of a challenge. So I shifted the melody and hits a beat away from where you'd expect it to be, and threw in some alterations.

I ended up liking it enough to pull it out every couple of years.

Horse walks into a twelve-bar. Twelve-bartender says "why the long face". Horse says "it's cause I can't make a proper joke out of this whole twelve-bar thing..."

Well, you hadda be there...

Sweet little tune! Kinda Monkish here and there. Is that a bari sax? Sounds great.
