February Challenge - "What was the first single you ever bought?"

well, I went for a song off the first CD. Oh, youth. I am pretty sure I got this CD at the Sam's Club, in the gigantic cardboard-sleeve-inside-plastic-anti-theft-bracket assembly that was around for a bit.

all parts recorded with the zoom h4n and sometimes also a panasonic cassette recorder, which has this amazingly hideous built-in compression that makes the motor noise even louder. guitars are through a blackstar HT-5.

Oh man, this is fantastic. I remember that song - that was one of my first albums, too, though not my first.

There is some heavy Stephen Merrit in here, which is not even remotely a bad thing.

Thinking about "a Magnetic Fields cover that sounds like the Spin Doctors" is cracking me up...

Not familiar with the original, but this is just great. Love the slow, monotone, double tracked, deep vocals. Just right.

I really enjoyed this. Made me think of The National.
