Henry at Home

April 18, 2012 10:09 AM

A Les Paul through a 1965 Fender Deluxe, a cello, a violin, a clarinet, and a flute. Inspired by "Eleanor Rigby". From my new record "Innocent Explanations".

For all you songwriting geeks out there, this was one of the more profound lessons in songwriting for me - I wrote the music in 2004, always liked it, could never figure out how to finish. Until that one day in 2007 when it became so clear that I couldn't NOT finish it - it wouldn't let me be, I simply had to write it down - and when I did get stuck, all I had to do was close my eyes and describe what I saw. It was as if looking at a photograph. If only they were all that way!

Very nice! I see the Beatles' influence, but it actually reminds me more of Flaming Lips' The Soft Bulletin, (one of my favorite records ever).

Thanks, DC! I love that record and consider it high praise.

Well done. But all you had to do to finish the song was observe Appleseed at home.

I won't have it, Appleseed - if nothing else you've got Metafilter!
