Kings & Queens

May 5, 2013 5:27 PM

Alternative rock, indie, inspired by Radiohead although it took a different turn and doesn't sound that much like it anymore.

My first post! Yay!

So much for festivities. A song that my band just made, our first studio produced song and well... tell me what you think :)

Lyrics:

Truth
Only words spoken
Only one act broken
and I'm sure you don't mind.

Truth
Doesn't get you anywhere
won't make them care
no matter what you find.

Chorus:
'Cause kings and Queens
They do exactly what they feel
They don't need to kneel
to someone like you and me.

Right
Leads you on the left side
Leads you to the wrong fight
don't dare to tell them that.

Right
The only thing you can do
they've divided and conquered you
a minor inconvenience too.

Chorus

Wrong
You always get it wrong
no matter how you try to get along
you'll always loose.

Wrong
No matter how right it feels
Someone always disagrees
with your point of view.

Chorus.

I really like the sound of this, but when stuff ramps up, the bass and drums seem to disconnect somewhat, which loses the tightness that there is during the verse and chorus sections. Also, toward the end when it repeats the last section over and over, I'd like to hear you ramp up the guitars and get a bit of a solo in there, Jonny Greenwood style :)

Thanks for the comment greenish!

I'll definitely relay the message about the drums and bass, to give it that little bit of "oomph" that the song needs.

Bit of a solo a la Jonny Greenwood? hmmmm...

*Note to self: Listen to Radiohead (even more) religiously and get crackin' on that end*

I really like this. The only criticism I would make is with the lyrics "They don't need to kneel / to someone like you and me" - just cos "someone" is one person and "you and me" is two people.

Some suggestions:

"to people like you and me"

"before you and me"

"before those like you and me"

"to [one-word adjective] [one-word noun] like you and me" (e.g. "tough kids," "dumb fucks" - just giving ideas for the rhythm, these are pretty corny examples I know)
