Kiss (Prince cover)

October 7, 2013 6:09 AM

For my woefully behind schedule song-a-week project, I recorded a slow, introspective version of the seminal Prince favorite. Leave your dancing shoes at the door.

I'm fairly far behind schedule at this point but refuse to give up. This is the first and probably only cover I'll do for the series.

The entire set can be listened to on Soundcloud.

If this doesn't one day fall into the inbox of a Buena Vista Pictures exec, who uploads it to his mp3 player, runs to the office of the CEO and emotionally insists that it is used as the end-credits music to the 30th Anniversary Special Edition Release of Pretty Woman, then, I don't even.

I'm loving this a lot. It's really lush, (which is why I think I'd maybe like to hear it without the drumbeat, either no percussion or something softer). The vocals are great.

Very fine indeed. I love the vocals - dynamic but at the same time very precise and reined in with thoughtful phrasing.

Wow. If Prince sang like you, I would actually like his stuff.

This has a nice rich atmosphere. I like it better when I can dissociate it from the original song. It feels like it belongs in the same era as the original, too, or slightly earlier. But overall, this is just so so LUSH. Thanks for reinterpreting it and making it your own.

I just wanted to come back, 7.5 years later, to say that this remains one of my favourite things ever posted to MeFiMusic.
