Sredni Vashtar - The Loop

January 19, 2014 3:56 PM

Four chords, a guitar loop and loping drums. Trying to keep things simple for once. More here.

Depending on how the drums were recorded, you might consider lowering the volume on the ride cymbal.

Thanks, this was recorded live straight to a Zoom H6, so the options were pretty limited. More of a sketch than a proper recording, but they often have the best vibe.

Sounds good, though.

Like it! The muffled, dreamy feel definitely works in its favour.

The whole recording has a great "room sound" that helps the cohesion of the mix -- with my headphones on I feel like I'm standing in the room where this was recorded (albeit closer to the drummer than the singer, but the ride is a poor man's cowbell, so the more the better). The whole mix really works with the messy/mellow vibe of the song itself. Nice vocal performance too.
