The Killing Floor

March 31, 2017 6:12 AM

This is a really rough early home studio demo of a song in development for my new recording project, The Wishing Well Divers' "Tragicomic Americana." Ironically, just as I've been working on this song, which thematically concerns stigmitization and marginalization, and well, being face down on the floor, I had a health scare last night that left me literally face down on the bathroom floor for a half hour. I've got no job, health insurance, family support, or cash cushion right now, so this song has taken on new personal meanings for me just since I started recording it a couple of days ago, with new worries about health problems and their potential to make it harder to find work and insurance.

LYRICS
You blamed me for the rain
Like I make it fall
You gave me no umbrella
Then drove me off
Into the fierce storm
That surrounds us all

Now you're never gonna
See me again
No, you're never gonna
See me again

You shook me to my knees
Pushed me to the ground
You shoved it in my face
Until I choked it down
But I'm lying face down
On the Killing Floor now

So you're never gonna
See me again
No you're never gonna
See me again

This really rocks! Hey, I only know you through your songs and comments, but I've always appreciated both. I just wanted to say that I'm so sorry that you are going through a hard time. May your load lighten as soon as possible. And also, it's about fucking time for single payer.

Thanks umbú! I've always really respected your contributions here, too, and couldn't agree more about how deal with medical care in the U.S. You don't even realize, viscerally, just how screwed up it is until you've seen how much better other modern countries do it. Then it's so much easier to see our own priorities here for what they really are.

Nicely done words, I hope you polish this just right. I wish you the best in this time.
