Stand With You

July 4, 2017 3:29 AM

My challenge entry, inspired by the many, many threads on the blue that have helped to educate me, and give me the words to talk about my own experiences, and the courage to stand up with people who have less privilege than me.

It's not properly mixed or mastered, but I feel like UK Pride Week is a nice time to post it and to hell with it.

If MetaFilter has taught me one thing, it's how little I know and understand about racism, sexism, feminism, transmisogyny, experiences of gender, and so much else. But I'm doing a tiny bit better than I was when I first signed up, so a giant thank you to everyone in all of those threads.

Fantastic vocal arrangement, as always.

I always enjoy hearing your songs here, greenish. Was that you on guitar, too?

I agree with Johnny Wallflower on the arrangement -- the strong vocals and layered performances bring an energy that really helps bring out the emotion of the song theme. To me it feels like they also give the song a sense of "now" -- a sense of urgency.

The rhythm and the style of this sort of made me think of some of the styles from the Beth Orton Central Reservation album which I've listened to I-don't-know-how-many times. (Not sure how you feel about her music -- I haven't kept up with her in a long time so it's very possible her music has changed a lot, but overall I still like that album.)

A lot of times I prefer a song before it's properly mixed or mastered -- I get to hear it in a more raw state. I hope you will keep posting more.

It is indeed me on the guitar, I didn't want to openly admit to it in the post though :|

Thanks for the recommendation, I will check that album out. I've always been slightly ambivalent about her, so about time I gave it a go probably.

Hey I think the guitar playing is nice. It sounded like you used some open strings, which gave the part more of an interesting flavor.
