Hockey Night In Canada

Canadians will no doubt remember the nation-wide contest that was held to find a new theme for the CBC's much-beloved Hockey Night In Canada when the royalties for the original became too expensive. Here is an entry that I made as a joke and never submitted, although, to be honest, I think it captures the essence of the sport pretty well.

A Number Another Summer

Instrumental demo written/recorded as first-takes after reading this post about the recording of The Cure's Disintegration album. Consider it a comment for the Disintegration post. And please excuse the mix, as it was hastily done. In keeping with the Disintegration theme, it begins with 8 seconds of silence.

L.A. area studio reccomendations?

Probably a bit of a long shot, but does anybody know of a good studio in the greater Los Angeles area that has experience with rock bands, isn't too expensive, and produces quality results? We're a 4 piece (drums, bass, guitar, vocals), and we'd like to record the instruments live and overdub lead and backing vocals. Maybe do a second guitar track if the song needs it, but that would be kept to a minimum. The goal is to have a good demo to book shows with, so we want to match our live sound as close as possible. Budget is less than $500, and we'd hope to get 5-6 songs for that. posted by InfidelZombie at 11:30 AM PST - 5 comments

The Christmas Lady (Dancing Version)

This is a song I wrote last Christmas actually for a friend's Christmas video they were doing. This is the instrumental dancing version, the original version had lyrics, but I didn't like them very much. Enjoy!

This is a quick cover of a friend's Christmas song that I always admired. JB (the writer) also contributed background vocals. This is NSFW but in a cheerful way I think.

Want To Embarrass That Irritating Twat Of A Relative/Colleague At This Year's Christmas Get-Together? - Dundee Tells You How - For FREE!

Instrumental version of an earlier upload - on reflection the singing sounded less like herald angels and more like cats fucking, except not quite feline enough. Dammit. Anyway - if your Crimbo party starts to sag invite that irritating relative or co-worker to sing along and make an utter twat of him/herself! Remember to point out they have to do it a la John Lydon....

Movie Credits instrumental

Kind of an eerie repetitive theme that I think sounds like it could be heard at the end of some kinda spooky, horror, thriller'ish type of movie i started with one little riff i made and copied and tweaked it over 5 or 6 tracks

Picking up on media hype about a strange new star that's getting beardy-wierdies very excited, local New Wave outfit The HeBeGeeBees (Maurice, Barry and Ruben) decide the time is ripe to release their debut single. Recorded live at a packed-to-the-rafters Holiday Inn Bethlehem, the track is coupled with the riske “Herod Blew My Camel, No Really". [more inside]

This Song Was About Crying

It's a snow day here in Wisconsin and that means that the kid and I are recording. This one is 5 tracks of kid vocals -- sort of a nonverbal impressionistic vibe this time -- with some canned drums and synth. And some crying at the end.

Sam (Cheesecake Mix)

Forgot about this one. Lyric's a bit rubbish (sentimental and rather cliched) but the rest isn't bad. Decent guitar solo from about 2.33. Don't know what I was trying to achieve with the extended outro. Whole thing is perhaps a little too slow and underproduced? Comments welcome, as ever. [more inside]

in an aisle seat

Greasy rock song about falling asleep in passenger seats. I could use some help with this. Ok, this is my first attempt at recording with real drums. While I'm happy to finally post something featuring my insanely talented little brother, Mike, I'm sorry to say that the drum recording I started out with was awful and I'm not sure I've made it any better. If anyone has some insight as to what can be fixed and how, or some tips on cheap/lo-fi/hopelessly inept home drum recording, I'd love to hear them. [more inside]
