The New Guy
The ending to a track with no beginning yet. Could use advice on how to reach this point, I guess.

Blue Eagle Jail
An 1865 arrangement of this tune by Frank B. Converse, which I performed as a banjo duet with Joel Hooks at the sixth Antietam Early Banjo Gathering concert in the barn at the Pry House Field Hospital Museum in Keedysville, Maryland this past weekend. [more inside]

I Don't Believe in Horoscopes, but...
Blackwolf Beach is a band out of Baltimore MD and features three mefites out of its four members. Josher71, CapnSue, and Petulantbeard. Capnsue and I actually met through Mefi so it's pretty awesome to be able to put this up.
This is from our first demo.

How do you guys use loopers?
I never really 'got' loopers until I bought one of those dinky little TC Dittos. It kinda changed everything and now I'm in deep. [more inside]

Everything Begins (1992 demo by Shrimp Tractor)
I've been digitizing some cassettes, and found this, which I'd COMPLETELY forgotten. It was the first time I had ever set foot in a recording studio, and the first song of mine that ever got recorded properly. Story inside. [more inside]

Suck My Kiss
Have you ever wondered what this Red Hot Chili Peppers song would sound like as a stripped back, slightly melancholic folk version? Of course you have. [more inside]

Innocence
Straightforward classic pop. I banged it out in GarageBand yesterday. Music and lyrics by me. I also did the vocals, guitars, and bass tracks.
Plenty of rough edges I know (my voice isn't great, the guitar solo should really be horns, and the drums sound a bit lifeless), but otherwise I think it came out pretty well. Back to studying for the bar exam!

Baby Bug
There's been a flurry of interest in cicadas lately, what with the little critters showing up in their millions in the US of Al. Here in Japan they grace us with their noisily enthusiastic presence once a year like clockwork, so I figured I'd employ one of 'em as drummer. The bug rushes the beat like hell, but there's something about its phrasing that I couldn't resist. The video (at YouTube or Vimeo) features the indefatigable critter itself, so be sure to tune in!

Revamp the challenge?
Recent challenges haven't been attracting much interest, and I've been doing it for long enough that I feel a bit burned out.
So I suggest that we have a blue sky discussion about what the challenge is/should be, what works and what doesn't, and maybe someone else feels like picking up the torch and running with it? [more inside]

Live and Let Die
If you ever thought that there was no place for a little drum n' bass in the world of shoegaze and dreampop, hopefully this song will prove you wrong :) Somewhat of a feel like Stereolab, Broadcast and Lush rolled into one. [more inside]

This is the last track from my band's first foray into the studio. It's kinda a jokey throwaway tune, but we love it. More to come. [more inside]

K.M.A.G.
Summer bubblegum pop-rock-schlock with the merest hint of Huey Lewis & The News - like the faint but unmistakable whiff of blocked drains on a hot day. I mean.....c'mon....what's not to like?
