Music Challenge for October

For October we've always gone with SCARY and not only do I not want to change that, I'd like to see it become a tradition here. So for October, let's be scary and anything goes. Just imagine that your producing something for a Halloween party, a Haunted House or even something just to scare the daylights out of trick-or-treaters. I think I might go with a little spoken word a la Vincent Price accompanied by some spooky music and sounds. Enjoy! posted by snsranch at 6:08 PM PST - 38 comments

Banjo guitar, Banjitar, Guitjo, etc.

Anyone have any experience with banjo-guitar hybrids? Any recommendations on which companies to order one from? I probably can't justify spending more than $400 or $500 on one, but it would be awesome if you know of a banjitar that does well with tuning the strings down real low and has pretty solid intonation. Also, would it work to just put normal, nylon guitar strings on the instrument? [more inside] posted by Corduroy at 1:10 PM PST - 16 comments

70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain - ladies and gentlemen I give you the music of the Rolls Royce Merlin

There are few sounds to compare with the music of the Rolls Royce Merlin engine. Check out this link featuring a Supermarine Spitfire and an Avro Lancaster, put a pair of cans on and crank it up a bit. Fantastic noise. You can keep heavy metal - this is real rock 'n' roll.... Don't Rush

I wrote and recorded this song in 1992 in Walnut Creek, California near San Francisco. I remember I was preparing to climb Mt. Whitney. I was pretty prolific in my songwriting then. It was about my first girlfriend, and how we pretty much took our time, and spent many years together during our youth in a healthy relationship. I think it's a pretty good example of a formula pop/love song. I hope you like it! [more inside]

Sadie

As autumn arrives, it always gives me a feeling of glorious sad sentimentality, almost like a chemical reaction. Whether I actually have something to feel sentimental about or not, those chilly sun-filled days create a longing like a chemical reaction. This song is that feeling for me, when you can't get back the past, but flounder to try. Guitar and vox recorded live with a single guitar overdub. [more inside]
