O Magnum Mysterium

December 24, 2008 11:58 AM

Tomas Luis de Victoria's version of O Magnum Mysterium was my favorite Christmas song back in the days of high school choir. Here is my own lo-fi rendition.

This is a very unpolished version (forgive the skips and bumps and jumps!) but I had a lot of fun making it! I used GarageBand, my iBook's built-in mic, and a pair of pantyhose for a makeshift soundfilter.

I sang all of the parts as written except the bass, which I sang an octave higher (I tried to sing it low, but I sounded like death. Death is very un-christmasy, by the way.)

Enjoy! Critique, if you care to!
Merry Christmas to all!

I also sang this in a high school choir. It was always one of my favorites, but I don't think I've heard it since then. Thank you so much for posting this, it is wonderfully done, beautiful sounding, and brings back great memories!

I'm floored. This is incredibly warm and beautiful. It's got a rich depth to the layers of vocals. I can't get past how you just used a built-in laptop mic...
