I Don't Feel At Home

May 20, 2014 6:13 AM

Inspired by the dissolution of my good friend's marriage. Heavy on atmosphere and breathy bg vocals.

Lyrics:

I'm sorry that I don't meet your eyes when we're together
or answer the late night calls you make when I'm not near
or laugh at the jokes you make to try and make me happy
I'm sorry that I don't feel at home with you here

I know that the bed is wide and cold when it is empty
but surely we've passed the point where we can reconcile
there's a pile of your unopened mail next to the doorway
I'm sorry that I don't feel a thing when you smile

Sometimes I dream that your green eyes still make me tremble
that catching your gaze across the room sets me on fire
but then i awake to find I don't feel any different
I'm sorry that thinking of you makes me so tired

Really depressing lyrics man! But I felt like the music felt a bit more upbeat at the end to counter some of the sadness. Kind of like a resigned, that's the nature of life sometimes vibe.

Nicely done all around.

Yeah, divorce is a pretty depressing thing.

thread necromancer here -- just wanted to say that this is really good, and that I particularly like those vocal harmonies in the background during the refrains. That outro is really great also.
