Ain't So Lonely

Okay, so that's not me singing or playing the guitar. But it's the first song I ever wrote. My good friend Sarah Kenvyn then did a bit of a rewrite, wrote some music, and recorded it. Thanks, Sarah!

Thanks Ira and sleepy pete!

I just found the original file that I sent Sarah and it looks like she changed a lot more words than I originally thought. She's made it a much... prettier song, I think. More defiant. Here are the original lyrics and she's definitely improved them:

when feelings start to shift
your judgment comes so swift
now we can't bridge this rift
can we?

yeah, once we were two pair
but i didn't want you to share
and you couldn't answer my prayer
could you?

and you don't know me
'cause i ain't so lonely
that you can own me
yeah

and your betrayal ain't so slight
'cause right don't come from might
and you made me an awful sight
again

and i didn't ask for this
but my plot needed a twist
and i think he's worth the risk
this time

so forgive me, if you can
for reaching for another man
but you let go of my hand
didn't you?

and you don't know me
'cause i ain't so lonely
that you can own me
yeah

Oh, and Sarah's got some live vids on Youtube. I especially like her "horn" work on Easy Street. She's also got some tracks on my site.

I like what your friend's done with the lyrics, but I like your version too. And I love it when musicians play instruments the way she plays her "horn" :)

Man. I came back after rediscovering this track in the stacks of my playlist and, man, Sarah's captivating! I like this version for its sense of space: its really acoustically nice.
