Like Sun by chococat

I think this'll be my last music post for a while, until I get my shit together, as it were. Thought I'd round it off at a nice even 10.
And, I thought it fitting to post this super-old song, ('98 or '99), which was my first attempt at "multitrack hard disk recording," with one Sure SM58 mic, some crappy Mac software on an old biege G3, handclaps and a LittleTikes" toy piano. I used what I had.
Way back when, I posted it on sites like the old mp3.com and it got some nice feedback which felt awesome and immediate and kind of weird and new. After a while I got sort of jaded with all the online music site stuff because it was clearly becoming the "So You Think You Can Dance" of the Internet, at the time.
Posting stuff recently to music.metafilter has rekindled a lot of that fun, immediate kind of vibe for me, so I thought this was a good way to complete the circle.
At the time I called this "a happy song about sad people," which I guess it is. It was written after leaving a shitty job. It sounds kind of corny and twee now, and the recording quality is pretty shite, but it was sincere at the time. Cheers everyone.

In preview this seems like way too much information. Oh well.

This song is called mathowie's community blog, and it's about mathowie, and the community blog, but mathowie's community blog is not the name of the community blog, that's just the name of the song.

- lyrical brilliance by It's Raining Florence Henderson, with extra bits of artistic license taken in the studio.

Locked in a Garage by chococat

Another discarded demo that would otherwise never have seen the light of day.
It's too long, the drum machine is just a placeholder, the guitars are sloppy (DEMO!) and the lyrics are sort of goofy.
Those aren't excuses, they are reasons. It was kind of thrown onto the scrapheap.

But why would I post it? Because I'm addicted to this now.

This one's about a nervous breakdown.

"When our hearts crumble, sunlight filters through..."
Three guitars, trumpet, sax, violin (me), vocal harmonies and rhythm section. My band Institut Polaire recorded this song in February 2006. While we're freezing down here now, we hope this poptastic postcard from Perth (Australia) can be part of a soundtrack for your northern summer.

This is a scrambled up song written immediately after I learned how to play Hoagy Carmichael's classic "Georgia On My Mind" about ten years ago.
Fending Off the Invasion by The Great Big Mulp

A week or so ago I embarked upon a thorough kitchen cleaning in a seemingly failed attempt to dissuade the cockroaches from continuing to live in it. Without paying rent. Whatever I used to clean the wooden cabinets, and I don't quite recall what it was, was also, I discovered, removing the varnish as well. And that is what this song is about.
Bagel on the Malecon by barmaljova

A very New York-bred outlook at old-time Cuban music, recorded entirely with .. violas! This was my attempt to create asymmetrical but memorable melodies, clear textures crammed with material, and experiment with multitrack viola as a concept, an ensemble. The sound of the classic Cuban bands had all that - except the violas, that is. This track appears on my newly released CD, the VJOLA: WORLD ON FOUR STRINGS
